HAWKS STUMBLE IN OVERTIME, AGAIN, FALL TO WEST CHESTER, 2-1

West Chester, PA (10/19/00) - A difficult season continued for the St. Joseph's University field hockey team on Thursday against Atlantic 10 rival West Chester. The Hawks dropped their sixth straight game, falling to WCU, 2-1 in overtime. It was the seventh one goal loss of the year for SJU and their fifth overtime defeat. The Crimson and Gray now have an overall record of 4-12, 0-4 in the A-10. The Rams, meanwhile, improved to 9-7, 2-0 in the A-10. Kim Rochon did all the damage for West Chester. She tallied a pair of goals, including the game-winner with just 9 seconds to play in the first overtime period. The Rams took an early lead in the contest, 1-0, when Rochon scored midway through the first half. The Hawks, however, retaliated on a goal by sophomore Kathy Sokalski with less than four minutes to play in the half. Senior Mary Kate Brislin collected the assist on the play for the first point of her Hawk career. The teams went into the intermission knotted at 1-1. The two clubs would play to a stalemate in the second half and for nearly all of the overtime session, before WCU would put in the game-winner. Junior Lauren Bradley turned in a strong effort in the cage for SJU. She stopped a season-high 11 shots, as the Rams blitzed the Hawk goal. WCU outshot SJU in the game 19-4. This weekend will be another busy one for the Hawks. On Saturday, SJU will travel to Lehigh, while on Sunday the Hawks will host Ursinus. Action both days begins at 11:00 AM.
