LADY KNIGHTS ROLL PAST HAWKS, 6-2

Piscataway, NJ (09/24/00) - The Rutgers field hockey team (5-3) defeated St. Joseph's (3-6) 6-2 on Sunday, with junior all-American Andschana Mendes leading the way. The Knights began the stream of goals early, scoring just 40 seconds into the match and did not let up the offensive pressure. RU took a 4-0 lead into the lockerroom at the half. St. Joseph's made a change in the goaltending at the half, sending in freshman Courtney Huff to replace Hawk starter Lauren Bradley, but that wouldn't be enough to stop the Knights in the second half. Trailing 5-0, the Hawks managed to get on the board during play following a penalty corner. Kathy Sokalski collected the goal for the Cityliners with Carly Pasceri adding the assist. Following another RU goal, SJU answered with one of their own, to make the final tally 6-2. Sophomore Erica Rossi tallied the score with an assist from sophomore Kelly Butler. It was the first goal of Rossi's career. Rutgers had sixteen shots on goal, while St. Joseph's goalies, Bradley and Huff had a combined five saves. The Hawks close out a three-game road trip on Wednesday at Delaware, before returning to Hawk Hill for a weekend homestand against Lafayette (Friday) and Fairfield (Saturday).
