NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Saint Joseph's freshman forward Rachael Brosious was chosen as the Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon. Brosious scored her first career goal in the Hawks' season-opening win over Liberty.

Midway through the first half, Nicole Gerdes sent a feed into the circle the Brosious redirected into the Liberty cage to give the Hawks a lead they would not relinquish. Jordan Martin added a penalty stroke and goalkeeper Kate Mitchell made four saves as the Hawks held on for the 2-1 win.

Hannah Prince of Massachusetts earned the league's Player of the Week Honor.

SJU is back in action on Friday, August 31, when the Hawks host Drexel at 3:00 p.m.
