Hawks Add Five Players for 2006 Season
May 2, 2006 PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's University head field hockey coach Michelle Finegan has announced the signing of five student-athletes to National Letters of Intent for the 2006 season. The quintet of newcomers includes Anne Schreuders, Jenn Schultz, Kellie Walter, Kelly McDonald and Ava Gudonis. A highly-skilled midfielder, Schreuders joins the Hawks from the Netherlands. Posessing a tremendous amount of talent and athleticism, she will challenge for playing time immediately and brings an abundance of knowledge and game experience gained from playing at the highest club level in Holland. A native of Allentown, Pa., Schultz guided William Allen High School to a 20-6-1 record and a trip to the 2005 PIAA state title game. Four of the team's six losses came at the hands of state and national champion Emmaus. She concluded the season with 25 goals and 21 assists. She assisted on the game-winning goal in the team's state semifinal victory over Wissahickon. A versatile midfielder, she boasts excellent field vision and should challenge for some playing time right away. A 2006 graduate of Hatboro-Horsham, Walter directed her high school team to a first place in its Conference. An energetic midfielder, Walter will provide enthusiasm and depth. A standout at Gwynedd Mercy Academy, McDonald has been involved in the US Futures program with the Mystx Club teams. She is an outstanding athlete who will provide depth. Gudonis will provide depth in the cage for the Hawks. The South Jersey native and Clearview High School product should provide energy and commitment. Saint Joseph's finished the 2005 season with a record of 10-10 overall. The team was the fourth seed in the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship, reaching the league tournament for the fifth straight season.
