Field Hockey Falls to Temple in Atlantic 10 Semifinals, 3-0

AMHERST, Mass. - The Saint Joseph's field hockey team fell to Temple in the Atlantic 10 semifinals, 3-0, on Friday afternoon at Garber Field in Amherst, Mass. The loss marks the end of the 2009 campaign for the Hawks. Temple (9-11) got on the board early as Kasey Ruth scored her third goal of the season on a penalty corner 6:22 into the contest. Kristen Wanner earned an assist on the play. The Owls doubled their lead midway through the second half as Charise Young notched her fourth goal of the year on a two-on-one with Katie Briglia. Ruth then added her fourth of the year and second of the game in the closing seconds on an assist by Young. Saint Joseph's (7-11) managed 11 shots in the contest, with 10 of them on goal. Junior Jen Wrublesky (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) led the squad with three. SJU goalkeeper Kelly Swanick (Malvern, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) made one save in the contest, while Temple's Sarah Dalrymple made nine. The Owls move on to face Richmond in the title game. The Spiders were winners in a 2-1 overtime thriller in the first semifinal.
