Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's field hockey team ended its regular season with a loss on Saturday, falling 2-1 at Temple. In the game, sophomore Hannah Rogers scored her first career goal for the Hawks in her first career start. SJU now finishes the year as the fourth seed in the Atlantic 10 Championship and will face top-seeded Massachusetts in the semifinals on Friday.

Temple (8-11 overall, 4-2 Atlantic 10) started the scoring midway through the first half as Liz Watto scored her seventh goal of the year on an assist from Kristen Wanner. The Owls would tack on an insurance goal with just over five minutes remaining in the game as Mandi Ruth had an unassisted tally to put TU up 2-0.

Saint Joseph's (11-8 overall, 3-3 Atlantic 10) would not go quietly, however, as Rogers scored with 3:32 to go in the contest to draw the Hawks back to within a goal. Unfortunately for SJU, time ran out before the Hawks could equalize.

SJU's Kelly Swanick and Temple goalkeeper Erin Hanshue both made a pair of saves in the contest. The defenses were strong as each team mustered only seven shots. Both squads were awarded five penalty corners in the match.

Friday's semifinal matchup between the Hawks and the Minutewomen will take place at Temple's Geasey Field at a time to be determined. In the other semifinal, the second-seeded Richmond Spiders will face the number three seed and tournament host, Temple.
