Temple Edges SJU in Regular Season FInale, 2-1
Oct. 29, 2005 PHILADELPHIA - A two goal first half deficit proved to be too much for Saint Joseph's (10-9, 3-4 A-10), as the Hawks dropped their regular season finale to Temple (11-9, 6-1 A-10) in Atlantic 10 Conference field hockey action on Geasey Field. Junior Maureen Casserly netted teh lone goal for the Crimson and Gray TU initiated the game's scoring with just over ten minutes remaining in the first half on a goal by senior Jen Adamek. The Owls carried a 2-0 advantage into the intermission after sophomore Alli Lokey's shot from just inside the right circle found the back of the cage. Responding to just three shots in the first half, the Hawks retaliated with seven in the second. St. Joe's second half persistence finally paid dividends at 16:30 mark when junior Maureen Casserly netted an unassisted goal. The Owls' Erin Hanshue would need seven saves to preserve the win, while Rebecca Cunfer turned away four Temple shots.
The Hawks must wait until Sunday, and the conclusion of Conference regular season play, to learn their postseason fate. The Atlantic 10 Championship will be hosted by Temple on Friday, November 4 and Saturday, November 5.
