Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's field hockey team lost its season finale on Saturday afternoon, falling to Temple, 4-2. The Owls scored two goals in the first minute of the second half to take a lead they would never relinquish. Jen Wrublesky and Kellie Walter scored for the Hawks.

In a rain-soaked first half, Saint Joseph's (10-8, 4-3 Atlantic 10) took an early lead midway through the first half. On a scramble in front of the cage, Wrublesky tallied her ninth goal of the year to put SJU on top, 1-0. The lead would be short-lived, as Dannah Brehm scored her first goal of the game less than five minutes later to equalize. The teams would remain tied heading into halftime.

Temple (15-5, 6-1 Atlantic 10) came out firing in the early part of the second half, scoring two goals in a span of 40 seconds to take the wind out of SJU's sails. Just 20 seconds into the period, Brehm took a pass in front of the goal from Alli Lokey and shot it into the bottom corner past goalkeeper Rebecca Cunfer to give the Owls the lead. Forty seconds later, Brehm and Lokey hooked up again to pad Temple's cushion. The goal was Brehm's third of the game and her ninth of the season. Lokey scored a goal of her own, her 18th of the year, with 9:14 remaining in the game.

The Hawks fought valiantly in their comeback effort, getting within two as Walter scored her third goal of the season on a feed from Marisa Pizzi. Unfortunately for the home team, time ran out before SJU could score again.

As a result of the loss, Saint Joseph's will be the fourth seed in the Atlantic 10 Championship next week. The Hawks will have a rematch with the Owls in the tournament semifinals at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, as Temple locked up the regular season title with today's win. Massachusetts and Richmond will face off at 2:00 p.m. in the other semifinal. The winners of the semifinals will meet at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, to decide the conference championship. All three games will be played at SJU's Finnesey Field.

Before today's game, Saint Joseph's honored its five seniors for their contributions to the program over the last four years. The honorees were Cunfer, Theresa Barbati, Brooke Henry, Brianne Miller, and Katie Young.
