Oct. 24, 2010
AMHERST, Mass. - The Saint Joseph's field hockey team conceded three early goals on Sunday and Massachusetts rode the wave to a 4-1 victory at Garber Field. Nicole McCreight scored her 15th goal of the season, tying her for the fourth-highest single-season goal total in SJU history.
Massachusetts (11-6 overall, 5-0 Atlantic 10) scored three goals in a span of 6:21 midway through the first half to take a commanding lead. Thando Zono scored her third and fourth goals of the season on penalty corners before Mika Black tallied her first to put the Minutewomen on top, 3-0.
Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, that would be all on the day, as Katie Kelly added a penalty stroke goal with 2:38 to go to seal the win.
Saint Joseph's returns home for one last contest, a 3:00 p.m. start against Lock Haven on Friday. Next Sunday, the Hawks will wrap up the regular season with a game at Richmond.
