Box Score

RICHMOND, Va. - Junior Kellie Walter scored her 10th goal of the season early in the first half, but the Saint Joseph's field hockey team fell to Richmond in overtime on Friday, 2-1. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Kelly Swanick made six saves in the game, including five in the second half.

Saint Joseph's (10-5 overall, 2-1 Atlantic 10) started the scoring off just seven and a half minutes into the game as Walter deflected a long shot by sophomore Jen Wrublesky into the cage for a quick 1-0 lead.

Richmond (5-9 overall, 1-1 Atlantic 10) outshot the Hawks 11-6 in the first half, but the Hawk defense allowed the Spiders to get just one of those shots on goal. The Spiders also held a 7-3 advantage in penalty corner opportunities in the opening stanza.

UR kept up the offensive pressure in the second half and finally broke through with just over three minutes to play as Megan Thompson scored the equalizer on a penalty corner to send the game into overtime. With a little more than four minutes to go in the first extra frame, Thompson scored the game-winner on Richmond's third corner opportunity of overtime.

Saint Joseph's will return to the Philadelphia area for a home game on Sunday morning against Saint Louis. The 11:00 a.m. game will be played at West Chester's Vonnie Gros Field and will feature a pre-game ceremony honoring SJU's graduating seniors: Krista Bordogna, Laura Hackenberger, Marisa Pizzi, and Gabriella Schrier.
