Record Offense Powers Hawks To 8-0 Rout of Robert Morris

PHILADELPHIA - Junior Katelyn O'Brien and sophomore Nicole Antonini tied longstanding Saint Joseph's single-game records for goals and assists respectively and the Hawks (3-2) erupted for a program record eight goals to power past Robert Morris (0-3), 8-0, in field hockey action on Finnesey Field. O'Brien finished with four goals, all coming in the second half. The four tallies matched the previous SJU best set by Liz Burns against Fairfield in 1990. Antonini, meanwhile added four assists to tie the program mark set by Dani Bleam versus Temple in 1995. SJU controlled the game throughout against the Colonials, who are in their first season of varsity competition. The Crimson and Gray netted four goals in each half and outshot RMU 35-0. SJU wnt on top early when junior Hilary Moody ripped a corner into the back of the cage just 2:51 into the contest. Senior Shannon Scott and Antonini collected the assists. Four minutes later SJU increased the lead to 2-0 when Antonini tipped in a pass from Scott. Unassisted tallies by sophomore Lauren Luft and freshman Leagh Rogers gave SJU a 4-0 advantage at intermission. In the second half, RMU had no answer for O'Brien. She scored four goals, three assisted by Antonini in the opening 10:44 of half number two. Freshman goalkeeper Kate Dunlap was a brightspot for Robert Morris. She withstood the Hawk flurry and finished with 19 saves. SJU freshman netminder Rebecca Cunfer did not face a shot to earn both the first win and shutout of her career. The eight goals bettered the previous Hawk mark of seven set four previous times the last against Fairfield in 1990. SJU next takes to the field at Delaware on Friday evening.
