Late Goals Derail Field Hockey, 3-1, at Lock Haven
Sept. 27, 2009
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - A pair of late goals doomed the Saint Joseph's field hockey team to a 3-1 defeat at Lock Haven on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Ellen Rowe scored her fourth goal of the season in the final minutes to account for SJU's scoring. Lock Haven (7-3) scored late in the first half to take a 1-0 lead into the break. Casey Hughes scored with 65 seconds left in the frame on a penalty corner to put the Lady Eagles ahead. The goal was assisted by Emma Wessner and Mary Keister. Amy Hordendorf doubled the lead for LHU with just 3:24 remaining in the game after she tipped in a penalty corner attempt by Kristi Shepps. Hughes, Wessner, and Keister hooked up again on another corner just over two minutes later to put the game out of reach. Saint Joseph's (2-7) got a goal right away on the ensuing restart as Rowe dribbled the ball into the arc and put a shot past goalkeeper Erin Terreson to avoid the shutout. Terreson made a pair of saves in the match while Kelly Swanick made seven for the Hawks. SJU will return to action on Friday, October 9 for its Atlantic 10 opener at home against Temple. The game is slated for a 3:00 p.m. start at Buckley Field.
