Field Hockey Blanks Saint Francis (Pa.), 3-0
Sept. 26, 2009
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's field hockey team earned a 3-0 victory over Saint Francis (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon in a match played at Lock Haven University. The Hawks received a goal and an assist from senior Anne Schreuders in the effort, and junior goalkeeper Kelly Swanick was credited with her first shutout of the season. Saint Joseph's (2-6) opened the scoring just 78 seconds into the game as Red Flash goalkeeper Sara Dittmann came out of her cage to challenge Schreuders, who sent a pass to junior Hannah Rogers for the 1-0 lead. Schreuders herself would score midway through the period after the ball deflected off of a Saint Francis player and into her path. She managed to tuck the ball into the cage past Dittmann to double the SJU advantage. In the second half, junior Jen Wrublesky added her third goal of the season with 20:04 remaining on the clock to close out the scoring. A staunch Hawk defense held Saint Francis (0-9) without a shot on goal throughout the entire contest. SJU outshot the Red Flash 17-2 for the game, including a 10-0 blanking in the second half. The Hawks also held a 7-4 penalty corner advantage. Saint Joseph's returns to the pitch Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. for a tilt with the Lock Haven Lady Eagles.
