Wrublesky's Overtime Goal Helps Saint Joseph's Field Hockey to Fourth Straight Win, 3-2, over William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Saint Joseph's forward Jen Wrublesky's first goal of the season came at the right time, as the sophomore tallied the game winner in overtime to lift the Hawks to a 3-2 win over William and Mary Sunday afternoon.

Just over seven minutes into overtime, Wrublesky took a pass from teammate Anne Schreuders and beat the Tribe's Carrie Thompson at the 77:30 mark for the game winning goal and to help SJU to its fourth straight win.

Saint Joseph's (5-1) got on the scoreboard first as Schreuders tallied her fifth goal of the season at 36:33 as she beat Thompson to the left side off a penalty corner pass by teammate Jennifer Schultz.

William and Mary (1-5) answered back with two straight goals to take a 2-1 lead. Erica Eng tied the game at one apiece as she tapped a pass from teammate Rebecca Wagner past the Hawks' goalkeeper Kelly Swanick at 43:44.

The Tribe took the lead less than two minutes later as Wesley Drew set up a breakaway for teammate Leah Zamesnik. Zamesnik received the pass and beat SJU's Swanick to the right post for a goal at 45:38.

With less than three minute remaining in the game, Saint Joseph's senior Marisa Pizzi tied the score at two apiece as she redirected a penalty corner shot by Schreuders that beat Thompson at 67:21.

Saint Joseph's finished the game with an 11-5 edge in corners and a slight 13-12 edge in shots. Between the pipes, Swanick made four saves to earn the victory.
 

 

The Hawks return to action Wednesday at Drexel. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
