Field Hockey Falls to Michigan State 4-0

HARRISONBURG, VA - Saint Joseph's suffered its first loss of the season as Michigan State shutout the Hawks 4-0 Saturday afternoon at James Madison University. The loss brings the Hawks' record to 3-1 and bumps the Spartans' record to 2-4.

In the first half, Saint Joseph's was able to hold MSU to one goal, which resulted from a short corner. The Spartans opened up the game in the second half however, scoring three more goals to put the game away.

Michigan State dominated the game, out-shooting the SJU 18-8 and having 10 corners compared to Saint Joseph's 6.

Junior goalkeeper Rebecca Cunfer played a strong game in the cage, playing all 70:00 minutes and making 10 saves for the Hawks.

Four Green Cards were handed out during the game, with three going to SJU players.

Underclassmen Krista Bordogna, Marisa Pizzi, Kellie Walter, Karen Wiley, and Ashley Wolf all saw action off the bench.

The Hawks take on host team James Madison tomorrow, Sunday September 10th at 1:00pm.
