Penn Edges SJU in Overtime, 2-1

PHILADELPHIA - Junior Lauren Luft scored midway through the second half to give Saint Joseph's (2-1) a lead, but Penn (2-1) tied the game late and tallied the game-winner 3:14 into overtime to give the Quakers a 2-1 victory in field hockey action on Finnesey Field. An evenly played game, SJU finally broke the deadlock in the 55th minute. Luft made the push on a penalty corner and then slid over to the near post. She then redirected a shot by senior Hilary Moody into the cage for a 1-0 lead. The Quakers equalized the game at 1-1 just over six minutes later with 9:30 left in regulation. Senior Lea Salese slotted a pass across the goal mouth and classmate Cara Calahan knocked it into the goal to tie the contest. The Quakers won it on a goal by Salese just 3:14 into the extra session. Salese took the push off of a corner, settled the ball and eluded a defender, then banged the ball into the cage. Each team attempted 10 shots in teh contest. Penn held a slim 9-8 advantage in penalty corners. The Quaker's Liz Schlossberg registered six saves, while her counterpart the Hawks' Rebecca Cunfer had four saves.
