Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's field hockey team fought back from a two-goal deficit to take the lead against 10th-ranked Duke on Sunday, but the Blue Devils came back to tie the game and went on to win, 4-3, in overtime. Duke's Tara Jennings notched the game-winner with 1:39 remaining in the first extra frame.

Jennings took a feed across the cage from Chelsea Amsley and slid a shot past an outstretched Kelly Swanick to give Duke (3-1) the win.

The Blue Devils scored first as Sarah Schoffstall netted her second goal of the season, receiving a pass from Rhian Jones after a penalty corner.

Nine minutes into the second half, Amie Survilla tallied her fifth goal of the year on a pass from Mary Nielsen.

Things would turn around almost right away for Saint Joseph's (0-2) as sophomore Ellen Rowe scored twice in a span of 39 seconds to pull the Hawks even midway through the second half. On the first goal, Rowe stole the ball from a Duke defender and carried it downfield before Blue Devil keeper Samantha Nelson came out of the cage to challenge. Rowe sent a shot past Nelson from long range that found its way into the cage to cut the deficit in half.

Soon after the ensuing restart, Hannah Rogers dispossessed her defender and sent a long pass across the face of the goal where a diving Rowe slammed the ball home to tie the score.

Five minutes later, Jen Wrublesky scored her first goal of the year to put the Hawks on top. After Kellie Walter inserted the ball on a penalty corner, Jenn Schultz made a quality stick-stop to set up Wrublesky's strike.

Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, Survilla would score on a corner of her own, tallying the equalizer with just 16 ticks remaining on the clock. She atoned for hitting the post on a penalty stroke with just over five minutes left and sent the game into overtime, where Jennings' heroics sent Duke home the winner.

"That was the best effort we've shown," said head coach Michelle Finegan. "We put it together against a highly-ranked team."

The Hawks will return to action on Wednesday afternoon, taking on Penn at Buckley Field. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
