Sept. 5, 2012 NEWARK, Del. - Meghan Githens scored her first goal of the season late in the second half but the Saint Joseph's field hockey team ultimately fell to Delaware, 3-1, on Wednesday night at Rullo Stadium. Goalkeeper Kate Mitchell made seven saves in the cage. Neither team was able to score in the first half, but Delaware (1-4) drew first blood three minutes into the second half. Michaela Patzner scored her fourth goal of the season on a long blast to give the Blue Hens the lead. UD struck again with 21:43 remaining as Toni Popinko redirected a ball from Kasey Prettyman into the cage before Nikki Onorato tipped one in to extend the lead to 3-0 with just under 10 minutes to go. Saint Joseph's (1-3) got on the scoreboard in the final minute as Githens sent one past Sarah Scher for her first goal of the year. The Hawks will return to action on Sunday, September 9, when they travel to Fairfield. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
