Antonini and Luft Team Up as SJU Cruises Past Monmouth
Aug. 27, 2005 PHILADELPHIA - Juniors Nicole Antonini and Lauren Luft teamed up for three goals as Saint Joseph's (1-0) cruised past Monmouth (0-1) in field hockey action on Finnesey Field, 4-0. Senior Katelyn O'Brien also scored for SJU. The Hawks high-scoring trio flexed its muscles early and often striking for goals twice in each half. Antonini tallied both of her goals in teh first half off passes from Luft to help SJU build up a 2-0 lead at intermission. Antonini returned the favor, assisting on Luft's first goal of the season to make it 3-0 just 2:06 into the second stanza. O'Brien then closed out the scoring when she converted a stroke with 14:02 remaining. SJU controled action from the outset and outshot Monmouth 17-5 and held a 6-2 advantage on corners. St. Joe's sophomore goalkeeper Rebecca Cunfer needed to make just two saves to register the shutout. Her counterpart, Monmouth's Carrie Colbert made 10 stops. Saint Joseph's returns to action on Sunday, September 4 at Fairfield.
