Women's Basketball Looks For First Win at Providence on Sunday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team looks to earn its first win of the season this Sunday as the Hawks travel to Providence for a 2 p.m. tip off. The game, which is being played at Alumni Hall, can be heard live on ww.sjuhawks.com

• Saint Joseph's is looking for its first win of the brand new season as the Hawks are coming off a 64-56 loss at New Hampshire on Friday.
• The Hawks are trying to avoid an 0-2 start as they have only dropped their opening two contests of a season three previous times (1983-84, 1995-96, 2002-03).
• Saint Joseph's fell to 26-11 all-time in season openers with Friday's loss to the Wildcats.
• Sunday's matchup is just the fourth meeting between the Hawks and Friars. Saint Joseph's dropped its lone contest at Providence, 65-56 on January 9, 1982.
• Saint Joseph's was picked to finish ninth in the 14-team Atlantic 10 according to a preseason poll conducted conference coaches and media.
• The Hawks return three starters and eight letterwinners from last year's club that went 13-17 and 5-9 in the A-10.
• Saint Joseph's and Xavier are the final Atlantic 10 teams to have a home games as both squads play their home openers on November 21.
• Senior forward Brittany Ford was a Preseason Atlantic 10 All-Conference Third Team honoree. Ford is coming off a career-high 12.2 points per game and garnered All-Conference Honorable Mention as a junior. She had 13 points and a team-best six rebounds against New Hampshire on Friday.
• Freshman guard Shelby Smith went 5-of-9 from the field on Friday to lead SJU in scoring with 14 points, including four three pointers.
