PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's has announced its 2012-13 women's basketball schedule, as the Atlantic 10 Conference finalized its full league schedule on Tuesday. The Hawks will potentially face 16 teams that advanced to the postseason last year and are slated for two nationally televised games.

Additionally, Saint Joseph's will host the opening three rounds of the 2013 Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Championships, March 8-10, with the title game conducted in conjunction with the men's semifinal contests on Saturday, March 16 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Among the highlights, Saint Joseph's will face up to five NCAA Tournament teams (Princeton, Maryland, Florida, St. Bonaventure and Dayton) and 11 WNIT teams (Drexel, Syracuse, Hofstra, Villanova, Central Michigan, Fairfield, Charlotte, Duquesne, Richmond, Temple and VCU) this season.

Coming off three-straight WNIT appearances, the Hawks begin 2012-13 with five games against teams that made the postseason last year. Saint Joseph's begins the season on November 11 against reigning Ivy League champion Princeton at Hagan Arena, before heading to city rival Drexel (Nov. 14). Home contests against Maryland (Nov. 17) and Syracuse (Nov. 20) are followed by road games at Hofstra (Nov. 25) and Saint Francis (Pa.) (Dec. 1).

Saint Joseph's returns home to host Lafayette (Dec. 5) and Villanova (Dec. 8), before taking a 12-day break for final exams. The Hawks return to the hardwood at the Gator Holiday Classic (Dec. 20-21). Hosted by the University of Florida, Saint Joseph's opens play against Central Michigan and will face either the host Gators or Savannah State the following day.

The Hawks come back to action after Christmas as they host the 21st Hawk Classic on December 28 and 29. Saint Joseph's begins play against Fairfield, while Wagner and UMBC round out the four-team field.

 

 

A road trip to UCLA on New Year's Eve and a visit to The Palestra to face Penn (Jan. 5) rounds out the nonconference portion of the schedule for the Hawks.

With the addition of Butler and VCU into the Atlantic 10 this season, each team's conference schedule will consist of 14 games. Saint Joseph's will face 14 A-10 team once, including both newcomers, but will not face Xavier.

The Hawks open the Atlantic 10 portion of the schedule at home against Richmond on January 12. Saint Joseph's goes on the road to George Washington (Jan. 17) and Saint Louis (Jan. 20) then returns to Hawk Hill for contests against St. Bonaventure (Jan. 27) and Butler (Jan. 30) to cap the month.

February begins with Saint Joseph's playing three of its first four games on the road. The Hawks open with contests at Rhode Island (Feb. 3) and VCU (Feb. 6), followed by a home game against Charlotte (Feb. 10) and trip to Duquesne (Feb. 13).

The Hawks return to Hagan Arena a pair of contests with Saint Joseph's game against Temple on February 17 being televised nationally on the CBS Sports Network, followed by mid-week contest versus La Salle (Feb. 20).

Saint Joseph's caps the regular season with an away game at Fordham (Feb. 24), followed by its final home game against Massachusetts (Feb. 27). The Hawks wrap up the regular season with a televised game on ESPN2 at Dayton on March 3.

Hosting the A-10 Women's Basketball Championship for the ninth time, the Hawks will welcome the top 12 teams in the conference to Hagan Arena from March 8-10, with the semifinals being televised by CBS Sports Network. The A-10 championship game will be televised live on the ESPN Networks on March 16 from the Barclays Center.
