MORAN AND ZAMPELLA SHARE MVP HONORS AT TEAM BANQUET

PHILADELPHIA (03/26/01) ­ Senior Angela Zampella and junior Susan Moran were chosen as co-Most Valuable Players at the St. Joseph's University women's basketball team's annual awards banquet, which took place in the Haub Center on the SJU campus. Moran led the Hawks in both scoring and rebounding for the third straight year, becoming just the second player in school history to accomplish the feat. She joins Dale Hodges (1988-90) as only the second Hawk to average 20 points for an entire season, ranking fifth in the nation with a 22.6 ppg average. Zampella, meanwhile, ranked third in the nation in assists and concluded her career as the Hawks' single game (17), single season (241) and career leader in assists (788). She also finished as the most prolific free throw shooter in school history, connecting on .845 of her attempts from the stripe. Both Zampella and Moran were named first team all-Atlantic 10 and first team all-Big Five. In addition, Moran received the Rev. Emory Ross Award for Academic Excellence. She was named a second team Academic All-American, as well as the A-10's Scholar Athlete of the Year. In addition several other Hawks were recognized for their achievements during the year. Freshman Esther Hoffer was honored with the Spirit Award, while Stephanie Graff, another newcomer, was named Most Improved. Junior Colleen McGahan was presented with the Roosevelt Hunter Community Service Award. The Unsung Hero Award was bestowed upon team athletic trainer Nicole Chimera. Tim Regenauer, the fisrts person in school history to serve as the Hawk mascot for four seasons, was presented the Loyalty Award.
