MORAN’S 26 POINTS AND 12 REBOUNDS POWER SJU OVER ST. BONAVENTURE
PHILADELPHIA (2/09/01) Junior Susan
Moran had a double-double (26 points-12
rebounds) to power St. Joseph's (13-10, 7-5
A-10) to a 62-52 victory over St. Bonaventure
(6-16, 2-9 A-10) at the Fieldhouse. Moran's soft touch helped SJU to
overcome an 11-point first half deficit and pull away for the victory.
Freshman Irina Krasnoshiok helped the cause by netting 12 of her 16
points after intermission
Trailing by a bucket at halftime, 26-24, the Hawks used a decisive 18-1
run midway through the second half to take command of the game.
Trailing by seven points, 38-31, with 13:54 to play the triumvirate of
Krasnoshiok, Amy Snell and Angela Zampella keyed the Hawk surge.
Krasnoshiok scored 8 points during the spurt, while Zampella added 6
points and Snell tallied 4 points to put the Hawks up 49-39 with 6:54
left. Snell's energy off the bench was critical to the Hawks success
during that stretch.
Down the stretch, the Bonnies kept the game close, but a parade of
Hawks to the charity stripe kept SBU at a distance. SJU connected on
8 of 12 at the line during the final 2:49. Only a "touchdown pass" layup
by Moran broke up the Hawks' march to the line.
SJU struggled in the first half to establish continuity offensively. The
Hawks shot just 35% in the half, relying almost solely on Moran to keep
the game within reach. Moran had 18 points and 9 rebounds before the
break, hitting on 8-10 from the field. The rest of the team contributed
only 6 points and shot 3-21.
In addition to Moran and Krasnoshiok, Zampella added 9 points and 12
assists. Snell posted career highs of 6 points and 7 caroms. Gellaine
Clarke led three Bonnies in double figures with 14 points and 13 boards.
SJU concludes a three-game homestand on Sunday, when George
Washington visits Philadelphia for a noon-time tip-off. That game will be
televised nationally on the Atlantic 10 Television Network and can be
viewed locally on Comcast SportsNet.
