PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's seniors Brittany Ford and Ashley Logue, and freshmen Ashley Prim and Shelby Smith were honored for their play during the 2009-10 season at the Philadelphia Big 5's annual awards dinner Wednesday night at Drexelbrook. Ford was an All-Big 5 First Team selection, while Logue earned both All-Big 5 Second Team and Most Improved Player honors. Prim and Villanova's Laura Sweeney shared Big 5 Rookie of the Year accolades, while Smith was named to the Big 5 All-Academic Team. Saint Joseph's leading scorer at 10.1 points per game, Ford is the 42nd Hawk to earn All-Big 5 First Team recognition and ninth to earn that honor after being named to the Second Team the previous season. Shooting a team-high 52 percent from the field (119-of-229), she led SJU in scoring eight times in her final year on Hawk Hill. A dominant defender, Ford rejected a team-high 33 shots and capped her career second all-time with 111 blocks. An Atlantic 10 All-Conference Third Team member, Ford also finished 19th in both scoring (1,009 points) and rebounding (453) in SJU history. Serving as a co-captain this season, Logue averaged a career-high 9.5 points per game, nearly two points more than her junior year. Leading the Hawks in rebounding (5.3 rpg), she helped Saint Joseph's claim the Hawk Classic this past December, earning All-Tournament Team honors in the process. Logue capped her four-year career 21st in team history with 449 career rebounds and is the first Saint Joseph's player to earn Philadelphia Big 5 Most Improved Player distinction. Starting 30 games at the point as a rookie, Prim led the Hawks and finished fourth in the Atlantic 10 in assists with 117. Leading all SJU freshmen in scoring (7.2 ppg) and rebounding (4.1 rpg), she became the first rookie guard in team history to post a double-double, scoring 18 points and adding 11 rebounds in an MVP performance in the title game of the Hawk Classic. An A-10 All-Rookie Team selection, Prim is the sixth Hawk to earn Philadelphia Big 5 Rookie of the Year honors and the fourth in the past six seasons.
A psychology major with a 3.91 grade-point-average, Smith is the 15th Hawk to earn a Big 5 All-Academic Team recognition. Playing in 31 games, she finished fourth on the Hawks in three-point field goals (17) and assists (38). |
