McBryan and Stachitas Named to Inquirer Academic All-Area Teams
April 17, 2006 PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's basketball players Maura McBryan and Chet Stachitas have been named to the 2005-06 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Basketball Teams, as voted on by the sports information directors of the 28 area institutions in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. A history major with a 3.86 GPA, McBryan (Narberth, PA) helped the Hawks to the nation's best turnaround of 13 games and an appearance in the Women's National Invitation Tournament. A two-time, ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Team selection, McBryan finished her senior season averaging 4.6 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. A 2004-05 Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team and 2004 Dead River Classic All-Tournament Team selections, McBryan is a seven-time Saint Joseph's University Athletic Director's Honor Roll and five-time member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll member. Stachitas (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL) is a senior marketing major with a 3.24 grade point average. He was also named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Team and to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team for two consecutive years. Stachitas was named to the 2006 Atlantic 10 All-Conference 2nd Team as he was SJU's second leading scorer with 13.3 points per game. He topped the team in 3-point percentage (40.5) and converted 80.5 percent from the foul line as the Hawks led the nation in free throw percentage (79.9). The senior scored double figures 24 times and earned a spot on the Atlantic 10 All-Championship Team as the Hawks reached the title game. Stachitas is joined on the men's team by Steve Danley (Penn), Johnny Elefterakis (Haverford), Jim McMahon (Cabrini), and Jason Polykoff (Haverford). Danley was named the Performer of the Year. McBryan is joined on the women's team by Jennifer Andrews (Holy Family), Dominique Lewis (West Chester), Chelsea Luhta (Widener) and Shelby Rance and Leah Shumoski of the University of the Sciences.
