Saint Joseph's enters the 2010 Atlantic 10 Championship as the fifth seed after going 9-5 in conference play and holding the tie breaker over Duquesne and St. Bonaventure.
This year marks the third time the Hawks have earned the fifth seed in the Atlantic 10 Tournament. Saint Joseph's previously earned the fifth seed in 2006 and 2007, advancing to the semifinals round and championship game, respectively.
Saint Joseph's is 29-3 all-time against its first round opponent, Fordham. The Hawks won this year's meeting 62-57 on January 9 at Hagan Arena.
The Hawks and Rams have met three times in the Atlantic 10 Tournament (1997, 2002 and 2006) with Saint Joseph's prevailing in all three contests.
Should the Hawks win Friday, they'd face the fourth-seeded Charlotte 49ers on Saturday. Saint Joseph's held a halftime lead against the 49ers earlier this year, but eventually fell, 67-58, on January 23.
A semifinal matchup could pit Saint Joseph's against #5 Xavier, Richmond or Massachusetts. The Hawks went 1-2 against those three squads, winning at Richmond on a last-second shot.
Senior forward Brittany Ford was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Third Team. Ford currently leads the Hawks in scoring at 10.2 points per game and is shooting a team-best 51.5 percent from the field (106-of-206). She was an All-Conference Honorable Mention a season ago, and a Preseason All-Conference Third Team honoree and is the 53rd Saint Joseph's player to earn All-Conference honors.
Freshman guard Ashley Prim became the 12th Hawk to earn A-10 All-Rookie Team accolades. She is currently fourth in the A-10 and leads all conference rookies in assists (105). The Ansonia, Conn. native has appeared in all 29 games and averaging a team-high 27 minutes per game.
