Women's Basketball's Roth Out Remainder Of Season

Feb. 17, 2005

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's women's basketball junior Christine Roth will miss the remainder of the 2004-05 season after suffering a broken bone in her left foot.

The Hawks top three-point threat, Roth suffered the injury in Sunday's win at Fordham. Roth, who did not feel any pain in her foot until after the game, scored 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting from behind the arc versus the Rams. She is expected to be out four-to-six weeks after breaking her second metatarsal and sesamoid bones.

"It is certainly a blow to us at this point in the season when our numbers are already low and she was coming off two great shooting games," said Saint Joseph's Head coach Cindy Griffin. "We will certainly miss her presence on the court in that she opened up the floor for penetration and for our low post play. However, we will again make some adjustments to make the combinations work."

After earning a spot in the starting rotation to begin the season, Roth became a key spark off the bench for the Hawks lately. For the season, the 5-foot-10 guard averaged 7.0 points and 1.6 rebounds per game. Her 49 three-point field goals have her tied for third in the latest Atlantic 10 statistical rankings.

The Hawks, who are still without junior guard Kelly Springman for another two weeks as she rehabs a broken left wrist, currently are tied for third in the A-10 East at 4-8 and 6-18 overall

Saint Joseph's returns to action Thursday, February 17, at home versus George Washington at 7 p.m.
