PHILADELPHIA -
For the second-straight game, Saint Joseph's will face one of the top teams in the Atlantic 10 as the Hawks host third-pace Charlotte Sunday at 2 p.m. at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse. Coming off a tough loss to Xavier on Friday, Saint Joseph's looks to avoid its first two-game losing streak in conference play and remain above .500 with a win. There will be a special half-time ceremony during Sunday's game to recognize the 221 Saint Joseph's University student-athletes who were named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (3.0 grade-point average for the fall semester).
Saint Joseph's Game Notes
SCOUTING THE 49ERS
Charlotte makes its second appearance at Hawk Hill riding a three-game win streak as the 49ers face off with Saint Joseph's Sunday. Despite it being the first time Charlotte has played SJU at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse, the 49ers had a bad experience in their first game on Hawk Hill as the 2005-06 Atlantic 10 Regular season Co-Champions lost to 10th-seeded Duquesne (56-45). This season though, Charlotte is being led by talented junior forward Sabrina Gregory's 13.4 points per game. Likely joining her in the paint are sophomore center Danielle Burgin (10.8 ppg and 7.5 rpg) and senior forward Courtney Williams (3.8 ppg). In the back court, sophomore Traci Ray (8.6 ppg) and freshman Aysha Jones (7.7 ppg) should get the starting nod. A balanced, fast-paced offense, the 49ers enter Sunday's contest tops in the A-10 in scoring at 72.5 ppg.
THE SERIES
The Hawks and 49ers meet for only the second time, with Charlotte winning the first-ever meeting last year 81-50 on January 20. Despite having never played Saint Joseph's on the road, the 49ers enter the game 0-1 at Hawk Hill after falling to Duquesne in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship last year.
