Kevin McDonnell Earns Atlantic 10 Cross Country Rookie of the Week Honors

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Freshman cross country standout Kevin McDonnell received the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for his performance at the 14th Annual Paddy Doyle/Iona Meet of Champions McDonnell, a Mooresetown, N.J. native out of Camden Catholic HS, covered the eight-kilometer course in a time of 25:36.6. His 42nd-place finish was second best on the Hawk squad as Saint Joseph's finished 11th in the 24-team field. Additionally, McDonnell was the third-best freshman overall in the race, which featured two nationally ranked squads in Iona (No. 4) and Michigan (No. 8) as well as numerous other regionally ranked opponents. The honor is the first bestowed upon McDonnell and the first conference recognition of any kind for the 2008 SJU men's cross country team. McDonnell will try to continue his impressive season in two weeks, as the Hawks compete at the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. on October 3. The men's race is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
