LABOY NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM

PHILADELPHIA (11/12/03) – Sophomore Andre Laboy, the 2003 Atlantic 10 Individual Champion, has proven that he is as much of a presence in the classroom as he is on the hill and dale. Laboy was one of six harriers honored today on the Academic All-Atlantic 10 team in voting conducted by the league's sports information directors. Laboy covered the A-10 Championship course in 24:46.7, the fastest time in the six A-10 Championships run at Philadelphia's Belmont Plateau. His margin of victory of 25.9 seconds is the fourth largest in conference history and the widest since Penn State's Eric Carter set the mark with a 46-second victory in 1986. The sophomore finished second at the Fordham and Penn State National Invitations earlier this season. Last year's A-10 Rookie of the Year, Laboy is a two-time A-10 Performer of the Week and one-time ECAC Performer of the Week. A criminal justice major, Laboy sports a 3.0 grade point average. Duquesne's Ryan Bender, a runner-up to Laboy at the A-10 Championships, was named the cross country Student-Athlete of the Year. George Washington's Darrell Andruski and David Azari, Duquesne's Kevin Borelli, and Xavier's Chris Tieke join Bender and Laboy on the team.
