LABOY RUNS AWAY WITH NOVACARE ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

PHILADELPHIA (12/11/02) – Freshman Andre Laboy of the Saint Joseph's University men's cross country team was honored as the University's NovaCare Athlete of the Month for November. The rookie harrier began the month by earning Rookie of the Year at the Atlantic 10 Championships after a third place (25:23) finish in the field of 108 runners. He was just one second off the winning pace of La Salle's Todd Witzleben. Two weeks later at the NCAA District II Championships, Laboy again led the Hawks, this time with a 40th place finish in the field of 174 runners. The Danbury, Conn. native concluded his season by pacing SJU at the ICAAAA/ECAC Championships with a 16th place finish. Saint Joseph's finished its season second in the Atlantic 10 and 11th in the district. SJU men's soccer goalie Kevin Dougher was named the inaugural NovaCare Athlete of the Month followed by junior Katie Bobish of women's tennis. Hawk Athletes of the Week for the month of November include Laboy and Kathy Sokalski (field hockey, 11/4), Natasha Pronga (field hockey, 11/11), Ann Regan (women's cross country, 11/18) and Jameer Nelson (men's basketball, 11/25).
