SJU COMPETES WITH NATION'S BEST AT NOTRE DAME INVITATION

SOUTH BEND, IND. (10/07/02) - Saint Joseph's competed with the nation's best cross country teams on Friday afternoon and finished 16th of 21 teams at the Notre Dame Invitational held on Friday in South Bend. The harriers had to deal with adverse conditions, as a heavy rainfall before the race gave way to clear and sunny skies during it, leaving the course muddy. Redshirt freshman Rich Anderson led the way for the Hawks by running a 26:00 on the 8k course to finish 70th in the field of 174 runners. Freshman Andre Laboy was three second behind Anderson and finished 77th overall, while senior captain placed 81st with a time of 26:08. Freshmen Mike DiDio (26:09, 82nd) and Joe Mohn (26:25, 104th) rounded out the top five for SJU. Sophomore Collin Martin (26:50, 140th) and senior Matt Lewis (27:10, 147th) completed the top seven for the Hawks. #1 ranked Stanford won the invitation with 33 points, while #25 Michigan placed second with 80 points. The Cardinal's Ryan Hall won the individual race with a time of 24:10. Saint Joseph's returns to action on Saturday, October 5, as the rest of the Hawks run locally at the La Salle Invitation.
