KOCH NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
PHILADELPHIA (1/10/02) - Seven Saint
Joseph's student athletes have been named to
the Academic All-Atlantic 10 Conference fall
sports teams. Included among the Hawk
honorees are field hockey players Kelly Butler,
Katie Helder, Natasha Pronga and Kathy
Sokalski; Ben Koch of the men's cross country
team; Ryan Dougherty of the men's soccer
team and Kim Miller of the women's soccer
team.
Koch, a senior majoring in Interdisciplinary Health Services, was
nominated to the men's cross country conference team. Koch holds a
cumulative grade point average of 3.47 while completing the cross
country season with a seven place finish at the Atlantic 10
championships.
Field hockey named four players to this year's All-Conference team.
Senior defender Helder, is majoring in Finance while carrying a 3.92
grade point average. Helder was named co-captain of this year's team.
Juniors Butler, Pronga and Sokalski were also named to this fall's
Atlantic 10 list. Butler a midfielder, carries a 3.4 grade point average in
Interdisciplinary Health Services. She tallied seven goals and five
assists for the Hawks. Pronga , a defender, is majoring in Elementary
Education and holds a 3.22 cumulative grade point average. She was
named a co-captain to the 2001 team. Sokalski, at forward, posted
seven goals and notched three assists during the fall season while
carrying a 3.82 grade point average in Interdisciplinary Health Services.
Dougherty, a senior midfielder for the Hawks, tallied 10 goals and six
assists this past fall. Dougherty is majoring in Elementary and Special
Education and currently maintains a 3.42 grade point average.
Junior forward Miller earned a spot on the all-conference team for her
efforts this past season. Miller scored one goal and notched one assist
for the Hawks while carrying a 3.85 grade point average in Psychology.
To be an eligible candidate, a student-athlete must have a grade point
average of at least 3.00 and be a starter or key reserve on his/her team.
Voting is conducted by the Atlantic 10 Conference's sports information
directors. The number of players selected to a team reflects the
standard-sized team in that sport.
