SJU PLACES 12th AT DISTRICT MEET

BETHLEHEM, PA (11/10/01) - The Saint Joseph's University men's cross country team placed 12th at the NCAA District 2 Championships held on the campus of Lehigh University on Saturday morning. The Hawks tallied 271 points, just two points behind 10th place finishers St. Francis (Pa.) and American University which compiled 269 points. Senior Ben Koch led the way for SJU, placing 41st out of 196 runners in a time of 31:46.00. Bill Hoffman and Brian Rosetti were close behind, finishing 50th (31:57.86) and 51st overall (31:58.25) while Tim Fisher ran 59th in a time of 32:06.08. DanMays roundd out the Hawks scorers with a 74th place showing (32:29.72). Villanova won the overall championship (75 points) with the Wildcats Adrian Blincoe (30:31.50) and Ryan Hayden (30:37.24) placing first and second overall. Georgetown placed second with 90 points followed by Princeton (114), A-10 Champions La Salle (128), Penn State (143), Fairleigh Dickinson (150), Bucknell (171), Navy (200), West Virginia (249) and St. Francis (Pa.) and American tied for 10th (269). In all, 29 teams competed in the District meet. SJU ends its season next Saturday (11/17) at the ICAAAA Championships to be held at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
