HAWKS PLACE 6th AT PAUL SHORT INVITATIONAL
BETHLEHEM, PA (10/6/01) - Seniors Bill
Hoffman and Brian Rosetti placed 22nd and
25th respectively to lead the Saint Joseph's
men's cross country team to a sixth place
finish at the Paul Short Invitational on Saturday
morning. The event, hosted for the 28th straight
year by Lehigh University,featured 39 men's
teams with Penn State winning the team title
with a score of 66 points.
"The result was good, but we are capable of considerably better," stated
head coach Mike Glavin. "Ben Hoffman ran a solid race while Brian
Rosetti and Jim Smith ran right where we thought they would be."
Hoffman took top honors for SJU for the first time all season, completing
the course in a time of 25:22.82. Rosetti followed closely behind,
running just under eight seconds (25:30.26) behind his teammate. Third
for the Hawks was Smith, who placed 35th overall in a time of 25:39.06.
Senior Ben Koch, normally the team's number one runner, placed a
disappointing fourth for SJU and 56th overall (25:54.78) while Dan Mays
rounded out the Hawk scorers, placing 93rd overall (26:21.27).
Three other Hawks, Tim Fisher, Rich Cullin and Collin Martin, ran
extremely well in an Open run, placing 10th, 18th and 19th overall.
Connecticut's Daniel Wilson was the individual champion,running in a
time of 24:19.33. Following Penn State on the team scoring was

SJU (225), Albany (235), UConn (236), Wayne State (253), Buffalo
(310), College of New Jersey (342), Duquesne (367), Monmouth (381),

Lehigh (558), Detroit-Mercy (568), Davidson (680), Kutztown (704), Rider
(705), Houston (713), Binghamton (757), La Salle(758), Mt. St. Mary's
(862), Lafayette (895), Queen's (919), Clarion (939),Robert Morris (940),
West Chester (1037), Bloomsburg (1047), Hofstra (1052),East
Stroudsburg (1053) and West Liberty (1190).
SJU returns to action next Saturday at the National Invitational hosted
by Penn State.
