Men's Cross Country Places Sixth at Atlantic 10 Championships

PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's men's cross country team finished in sixth place at Saturday's Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships. The 8K race, held in Pittsburgh, PA, featured 146 runners from the 14 conference schools. The Hawks were paced by graduate student Mike DiDio and senior co-captain Teddy Meyers, who earned All-Conference honors for their performances. The individual champion was La Salle's Sean Quigley, and the Explorers took home top team honors as well.

DiDio placed sixth overall with a time of 25:26.20. Meyers was right behind him, turning in a 25:38.75 to finish in seventh place. Freshman Jonathan Sclafani placed 29th with a time of 26:25.50. The SJU scorers were rounded out by senior co-captain Shawn Duffy and sophomore Brendan Kearney. Duffy ran a 26:36.95 to finish in 38th place, while Kearney's 26:44.80 was good for 40th place.

Six other Hawks participated in the 2006 Championships. Sophomore Justin Heinze placed 73rd with a time of 27:24.00, followed soon after by junior Richard Ryan. Ryan's time of 27:29.80 earned him 79th place. Freshman Chris Savino turned in a time of 28:04.90 to place 102nd. Senior Brian O'Neill and freshman James Jennings finished back-to-back at 113th and 114th with times of 28:21.30 and 28:25.0, respectively. Sophomore Stephen Young turned in a 29:24.40, placing him 132nd.
