Oct. 27, 2007
The Saint Joseph's men's cross country posted a fifth place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championship while junior Kyle Murray grabbed All-Conference honors. The race, hosted by SJU at Belmont Plateau was run in a torrential downpour that saw La Salle win the men's title with 37 points over Richmond (54 points). Murray led the Hawks with his ninth place finish, completing the 8,000-meter course in 25:58. Murray, who joined a chase pack following eventual A-10 Champ Duquesne's Tom Slosky (1st/25:39), maintained a top-15 place in the field throughout the race. With a mile to go Murray crept up from 11th to ninth. The All-Atlantic 10 honor is the first for Murray. Freshman Brian Guterl furthered his outstanding season finishing as the second Hawk across the line in 23rd place, finishing in a time of 26:30. Another youngster, sophomore Jonathan Sclafani (26:55), finished just 25 seconds after Guterl in 38th place. Senior Captain Will Rowland finished in 56th place in his second race of the season in a time of 27:24, while freshman Ryan Fenimore was the next place back in 57th running 27:25. Rounding out the top seven was Jimmy Jennings (61st/27:32) and Stephen Young (65th/27:38).
