Men's and Women's Cross Country Compete at Princeton

Princeton, N.J. - The men's and women's cross country teams both placed third in the Princeton Invitational on a rainy and messy Saturday morning. The women placed third of nine, while the men were third of 13 teams. The women finished with 95 points while Columbia finished first with 28 and South Carolina in second with 77 points. The men totaled 98 points while Texas was first with 35 and Princeton finished second with 40. Trudging through the muddy 8K course to finish first for the Hawks on the men's side was Kyle Murray who was fourth to the finish line in 25:09.00. Brian Guterl crossed the line soon after in seventh, running the course in 25:13.00. Kevin McDonnell came in next in 20th with a time of 25:37.90, while Jimmy Jennings finished in 26th (25:43.90), and Jonathan Sclafani completed the course in 26:03.90 (48th). Rounding out scoring was George Wittmann in 53rd (26:10.40) and Ryan Birchmeier in 69th (26:24.60). On the women's side, Christina Morelli finished the 6K course first for the Hawks in 17th with a time of 24:10.40, while Jessica DiCicco (20th) and Aimee Chegwidden (21st) finished within less than one second of each other at 24:17.50 and 24:17.60, respectively. Beth Lambright finished with a personal best of 24:22.80 (23rd), while Maureen O'Donnell continued her steady efforts, finishing in 24:46 (33rd). Closing up Hawks scoring for the women were Laura Faller in 41st (25:03.80) and Samantha Peters in 44th (25:05.90).
Despite the miserable conditions, women's head coach Kevin Quinn is proud of his team's efforts on Saturday. "This was a terrific effort and the team is showing resiliency and a fighting heart." said Quinn. "This was an excellent race in preparation for the A-10 meet in two weeks." The Hawks travel to Saint Louis for the Atlantic 10 Championship meet on Saturday, October 31st with race start time at 10:00 a.m. |
