Men's Cross Country Places Fifth at Lafayette Invitational

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's graduate student Mike DiDio placed first overall out of 130 runners at Saturday's Lafayette Invitational in Easton, PA. DiDio's efforts led the SJU men's cross country squad to a fifth-place finish out of the 14 teams that competed. The University of Pennsylvania took top team honors. DiDio finished the five-mile run in 25:03.8, nearly 20 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. He was joined in the top ten by senior co-captain Teddy Meyers, who placed tenth with a time of 25:48.3. Freshman Jonathan Sclafani and senior co-captain Shawn Duffy followed soon after with finishes of 24th (26:31.1) and 31st (26:46.9), respectively. Junior Richard Ryan, freshman Chris Savino, and sophomore Stephen Young also scored for the Hawks. Ryan placed 66th with a time of 27:36.1, Savino turned in a 28:07.5 to place 84th, and Young finished the race in 28:10.8, good for 87th. The Hawks will spend the next two weeks preparing for the Atlantic 10 Championships, to be held October 28 in Pittsburgh, PA. Saint Joseph's placed fourth in 2005.
