Myers Masterful at Spiked Shoe Invitational

STATE COLLEGE, PA - Led by the fleet feet of junior Teddy Myers, the Saint Joseph's men'cross country team affirmed that it will be a legitimate contender for the Atlantic 10 title after posting an impressive fourth place finish at the prestigious Spiked Shoe Invitational. Myers turned in his best effort as a collegian by winning the individual title.

The Hawks Rookie of the Year as a freshman, Myers missed the 2004 A-10 Championship with an injury, but was brilliant in his first race of the season topping a field of 189 runners in a time of 25:29. He outdueled Sliipery Rock freshman Jeff Weiss for the top spot by three seconds.

SJU also recieved exceptional efforts from seniors Joe Mohn and Dave Masse. Mohn finished 20th in a time of 26:36, while Masse placed 30th overall in his first race with a time of 27:06.

Junior Shawn Duffy and freshman Brendan Kearney also scored for the Hawks. Duffy followed closely behind Masse to finish 35th (27:29) and Kearney placed 41st (27:35).

Freshman Justin Heinze (55th) and sophomore Will Rowland (77th) rounded out the SJU lineup.

The team totaled 127 points to place fourth. Penn STate won the team title with 39 points, besting 16 other schools. Yale finished second with 56 points; Slippery Rock finished third with 112, Indiana University of Pennsylvania rounded out the top five with a score of 166.
