CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Saint Joseph's men's cross country team placed third at the Bojangles Invitational Saturday at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. Jonathan Sclafani was SJU's best finisher with a fifth-place performance.

Sclafani completed the eight-kilometer race in 26:22.6, followed by freshman Kevin McDonnell (seventh) in 26:26.7. Sophomore Brian Guterl was thirteen seconds behind McDonnell in eighth place, finishing 26:39.0.

SJU's scoring quintet was rounded out by Jimmy Jennings (26:58.2) and Stephen Young (27:49.4) by finishing in 13th and 24th, respectively.

The Hawks' final seven runners finished in a pack ranging from 34th to 53rd, which included Ryan Fenimore (28:26.3), David Evans (37th/27:37.0), Luke Fischer (38th/28:40.7), Brendan Kearney (39th/28:41.1), Jesse Brooks (41st/28:49.5), Justin Heinze (43rd/28:50.8), George Johnson (52nd/29:35.2) and George Wittmann (29:37.3).

The meet was a test run for Charlotte, who will be hosting the Atlantic 10 Championship in November. SJU competed at Charlotte without two of its top runners, Kyle Murray (2007 All-Atlantic 10 Cross Country) and Will Rowland (2005 All-Atlantic 10 Cross Country).

The Hawks will return to action next week when they travel back to Van Courtlandt Park, which will play host to the Paddy O'Doyle Invitational.
