Youthful Hawk Men Place Seventh at Fordham
Sept. 10, 2005 BRONX, NY - Although several of the team's veteran runners did not compete, the Saint Joseph's men's cross country team received solid performances from its younger harriers and turned in a seventh place finish out of 17 teams on the 8K course at the 2005 Fordham Cross Country Invitational this afternoon at Van Cortlandt Park. Sophomore Will Rowland led the Hawk contingent. Rowland placed 23rd out of 153 runners with a time of 26:34 to pace the Crimson and Gray. Also scoring for SJU, which totaled 203 points, were sophomore Rich Ryan and junior Shawn Duffy who crossed the finish in identical times of 27:38 to place 55th and 56th. Freshman Justin Heinze was close behind in a time of 27:48 to place 62nd. Freshman Brendan Kearny (29:30/91st), senior Dave Masse (29:42/97th), freshman Mike Howanski (30:15/105th) and junior Brian O'Neill (30:32/111th) rounded out the SJU lineup. Princeton captured the team title and Providence's Martin Fagan won the individual crown, covering the 8K course in 25:26.01.
