HAWK MEN OPEN INDOOR SEASON FAST AT LAFAYETTE INVITE

EASTON, PA (12/06/03) - Andrew Thomas captured a pair of gold medals and the Saint Joseph's men's track team opened the indoor season with a solid outing at the Lafayette Indoor Track and Field Invitational. Four other Hawks also claimed first place finishes on the day for the Crimson and Gray. Thomas won the 300 yard dash in a time of 32.22 seconds and then captured the 500 meter run in 1:05.69. Thomas just edged out teammate Jerry Puryear (1:06.46) in the 500m event. In addition to placing one-two in the 500m, SJU also took the top two spots in both the 440 yard dash and the one mile run. Doug Rick (50.26) and Nick Carras (50.94) were the finishers in the 440, while Rich Anderson (4:32.01) edged Brad Schmidt (4:32.05) by .04 hundreths of a second for first place in the mile run. Newcomer Jerome Harris picked up a win in the 60 yard hurdles and the 4x440 relay also earned a gold. Matt Petrocci took second in the 880.
