4x800 PLACES SECOND AT ICAAAA CHAMPIONSHIP

PRINCETON, NJ (5/20/01) ­ The St. Joseph's men's track team ended is outdoor season on a high note, placing 25th among the 48 competing schools at the ICAAAA Championships held at William Weaver Stadium on the campus of Princeton University. Leading the way for the Hawks was the 4x800 team of Geoff Valentine, Jim Smith, Andy Craycraft and Brian Rosetti, which placed second overall to garner eight of the 11 points scored by the SJU team. Their time of 7:29.71 was just .36 second behind Georgetown (7:29.35). Senior Karl Savage picked up the remaining three points, placing sixth at the 3000 meter run in a time of 3:50.53. Junior Ben Koch set a personal best in the 3000-meter steeplechase, placing 15th overall in a time of 9:02.70. Junior James Scott just missed qualifying for the finals at both the 100 and 200 meters. Scott was ninth overall in a time of 21:44 after the 200 heats (eight qualify), just .04 seconds behind the eighth qualifier, Izavier Chisholm of UNC-Wilmington. At 100 meters, Scott placed 11th after the heats in a time of 10.83, just .06 seconds from qualifying for the finals.
