HAWKS OPEN UP 2000-01 TRACK SEASON AT LAFAYETTE

EASTON, PA - After an exciting cross country season which saw St. Joseph's University sweep the Atlantic 10 Conference team championships, the Hawk runners went inside to open their 2000-01 track season. In a low-key tune-up at the Lafayette Invitational, the SJU men and women posted some fine performances. On the men's side, the Hawk's had two individual winners, freshman Andy Craycraft at 600 yards and senior Geoff Valentine at 880 yards. The team's mile relay of junior Marc Maccario, junior Mike McCabe, sophomore Jerry Puryear, and Valentine also won with a time of 3:27.1. McCabe gave SJU a 1-2 finish in the 600 (1:15.7) while Maccario placed second in the 440 (51.1). Valentine ran 1:59.6 for his winning performance in the 880 while junior Jeff Storch placed second in the event, finishing in 2:01 flat. Junior James Scott placed second at 300 yards (32.2 seconds) and third at 60 yards (6.3 seconds) to round out the team's top performances. The Hawks will compete next on Saturday at Princeton.
