Feb. 13, 2009
NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Saint Joseph's men's track squad had a successful showing in their final A-10 tuneup at the Lafayette/Rider Invitational hosted by the Armory Track & Field Center in New York Friday night. The 4x400m Relay and Jared Sabre qualified for the IC4A Championships. The 4x400m Relay finally got over the hump Friday with a time of 3:19.81 for a third place finish. Multiple times this indoor season the squad had finished on the cusp of qualifying for the IC4As with times in and around the 3:20 area. Friday's late night performance (race time approximately 11:15 p.m.) gives the team a major confidence boost going into the A-10 Championships next week thanks to the season-best performance. Jared Sabre broke the IC4A barrier in the 500m dash with an impressive showing, finishing fifth. He crossed the line in a time of 1:04.65. The only other top 10 performances were from Jonathan Sclafani (seventh/4:22.02) in the Mile and Brendan Kearney (ninth/1:57.18) in the 800m. The Hawks travel to Mackal Fieldhouse for the Atlantic 10 Championships on Friday and Saturday. For the first time in the competition's history, the meet is a two-day event at the University of Rhode Island. MEN'S RESULTS
