Underclassmen Shine at Ursinus in Tune Up for Men's Track

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.--The SJU men's track team ran many of their underclassmen in a tune up for next week's challenging meet, finishing fifth of 14 teams at the Ursinus Invitational on Friday. Junior Justin Heinze led the way with an impressive win in the 5,000m run. Heinze's time of 15:46.49 capped a solid day for the Hawks on the short track in Collegeville, Pa. Freshman Luke Fischer ran a steady 800m race to finish second in a time of 1:59.27. Sophomore Drew Brandt also turned in a good time in his 200m dash, finishing third with his 23.04 showing. Brandt's counterpart, freshman Brian Smith was just a half second behind in fifth place with a time of 23.56. Other youngsters with high finishes included former A-10 Rookie of the Week, Jared Sabre (52.31), who finished sixth in the 400m dash, and fellow classmate Jimmy McCue (2:01.13) who earned a hard fought sixth place slot. SJU also posted a fifth place showing in the 4x200m Relay in a time of 1:39.45. The Hawks will return to the oval next week at the Penn State National Meet on Friday and Saturday.
