Top-Seeded Harvard Handles Men's Netters at ECAC Championship
Oct. 1 2004 FLUSHING MEADOWS, NY - Taking on the region's top competition the 16th seeded Saint Joseph's men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to #1 seed Harvard in the opening round of the 2004 ECAC Championships at the USTA National Tennis Center. SJU was extremely competitive in doubles, but was unable to muster a vicotory. Senior Francisco Velazquez and junior A.J. Garabedian dropped an 8-3 decision at number one, while Jimmy Holland and Van Homer Pangilinan lost 9-7 at number two and junior Chris Spencer and freshman Michael Portonova fell 8-6 at number three. In singles, the Crimson handled the Hawks at all six positions. Velazquez fell 6-1, 6-1 at number one, Holland dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision at number two, Garabedian lost 6-2, 7-5 at number three, Portonova was defeated 6-4, 6-1 at number four, junior Antonio Aniello lost 6-3, 6-0 at five and Spencer fell 6-1, 6-1 at number six. SJU returns to action at the ECAC Championship on Saturday against Dartmouth.
