NETTERS FALL TO GW, 4-2, IN A-10 SEMIS
MONROEVILLE, PA (4/9/04) -- Second-seeded George Washington defeated Saint Joseph's, 4-2, in the Atlantic 10 Semifinals to advance to tomorrow's finals against Richmond. SJU, which falls to 9-8 on the season, takes on St. Bonaventure in the third-place match on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Hawks are guaranteed their best-ever finish at A-10s, improving on last year's fifth-place showing.
Things looked good early as SJU took the doubles point thanks to wins from sophomores A.J. Garabedian and Jimmy Holland (9-8 (4)) at #2 and Chris Spencer/Antonio Aniello (9-8 (5)) at #3. Aniello was the only singles winner for SJU. He was a 6-2, 6-2 victor at #6. Garabedian was the only match not to finish as GW took home straight set victories at #1, #2, #3 and #5. St. Joe's defeated the Bonnies, 4-3, earlier this season. George Washington 4, Saint Joseph's 2 Singles: Doubles:
