HAWKS TOP MONMOUTH, 5-2

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ. (3/27/02) -- The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team upset the Monmouth University 5-2 during Wednesday afternoon's contest. In singles action, #1 seed Francisco Velazquez downed Simon Key 7-5, 6-0, while Van Homer Pangilinan, Bob Cappelli, and Pat Mulvaney were also successful in singles competition. The Hawks lone loss came at the #2 slot when Shawn Farrokh challenged Monmouth foe Chad Long to a three-set match but falling in the end 1-6, 6-4, 7-5. In doubles action, SJU was successful in two out of three matches, losing at the #3 slot 8-3. The Hawks, now 4-8, will open Atlantic 10 competition Friday, March 29, when they play host to Massachusetts. The Minutemen are 0-14 on the season.
